Rockscape is the open-air theatre at 95-99 Renshaw Street, corner Leece Street and is available to book from us for any event between now and the end of 2009.

The theatre, designed by Japanese architects Atelier Bow Wow in the form of a traditional “Greek Amphitheatre” was originally part of Liverpool Biennial’s festival of visual contemporary arts, open as a public space as well as playing host to performances of local musicians, dancers and poets on the weekends during the Festival.

Because of the Rockscape design’s historical connotations and its connections with the more artistic end of Liverpool's culture we are looking for diverse ways in which this space can be used, and the ways in which artistic performance can be given a more public viewing platform.

To expand further...

Our hope is that Rockscape; Liverpool’s Modern Amphitheatre, can connect with the role of the traditional Greek Amphitheatre, which was seen as a ”window into ancient Greek life”, open areas in city centres or next to hillsides where the audience, standing or sitting, could watch and listen to the chorus singing about the exploits of a god or hero.

Although the content may have changed, the idea of Rockscape being a window into modern Liverpool life, is one way we would like this venue to be seen, as a place that is open and accessible to all, where the artistic and creative aspects of Liverpool culture can be seen as part of the physical landscape of the city.

For those interested in booking Rockscape...

In simple terms, Rockscape can be treated as an ordinary venue which can be used for one of gigs/performances as ticketed one off performances. However, because of its open-air nature, and central location it has great appeal and the power to raise eyebrows, make ears twitch and arouse interest from the general public and passersby, making it the perfect venue for widening prospective audience and fan-base. Therefore bands may also wish to use this space for album/E.P launches and one off special performances. It could also be the perfect venue for local drama and theatre groups of any size or scale, to bring their performances into a more public sphere.
